Kilkelly table tennis club was formed in January 2009 by Edward Ditchburn and is based in Kilkelly community centre Kilkelly County Mayo. it has six tables and over 30 members and is growing. they have a few teams in the mayo leagues and some players play in the national events. players from kilkelly and the surrounding area attend the club.

The second round of the Stiga M.A.T.T. top 8s took place on wednesday night the 25th August 2010 in Kilkelly Table Tennis Club Mayo.

The Stiga M.A.T.T. top 8s series held the second round on wednesday the 25th in what was a thrilling night of table tennis.

everyone was on top of thier game and it was always going to be tough.

the first round saw Daragh Egan play Brian Dunleavey with the two of them being favourites to win the event with some close games Brian managed to win the match by 3 games to 1 getting Brian of to a good start.

Meanwhile Daragh Dermody played Niamh Molloy and successfully came through by 3 games to 0 as the night went on the matches got tougher. and by the halfway point after four games it was very tight at the top with Martin-Edward Ditchburn Brian Dunleavey playing four and winning four. And Daragh Dermody winning three out of four. Which set the tone for the three remaining rounds.

In round five Martin-Edward played his number 1 rival in the club Daragh Egan in what was a close battle with the scores very tight in each game.

 Martin-Edward managed to play some great table tennis and went on to a 3- 0 win. Meanwhile both Daragh Dermody and Brian won thier matches making it 5 wins out of 5 for Brian and Martin-Edward and four out of five for Daragh Dermody.

In round Six Martin-Edward played Daragh Dermody and Brian played young Eddie

Daragh got of to a flying start and played exceptionally well beaten Martin-Edward by 3 games to nil.Meanwhile Brian found himself in a very tough match against Eddie and it was very tight after four games the score was tied at 2 games all. and so it went down to the wire for the fifth game.

With both players giving it all it was reaching an exciting climax with the game going in Eddies favour with the score at 9-7 to Eddie a timeout was called. both players took a deep breath and with the pressure on Brian to keep his unbeaten record on the night. He dug deep and managed to hold his nerve and took the next four points to win the match by 3 games to two.

Going into the final round of matches the score was Brian played six won six Martin-Edward played six won five and Daragh played six won five. the final found saw Brian playing Martin-Edward and Daragh playing Tara Molloy.

Daragh played well and won his match by three games to nil. In the match between Brian and Martin-Edward it was tense and tough. In an exciting game Martin-Edward managed to scrape a win putting him one-nil up. the second game was as tough with some excellent rallies taking place. Again the game went to Martin-Edward giving him a 2-0 lead.

Brian dug deep and managed to win the next game making the match stand at 2 games to 1

In the fifth game Martin-Edward managed to play some fantastic table tennis and went on to secure the game and winning the match by 3 games to 1.

So the evening finished with the scores at Brian played 7 won 6 Martin-Edward played 7 won 6 and Daragh Dermody played 7 won 6 so it went to the dreaded countback system. In the end it finished 1st Martin-Edward 2. Daragh Dermody And 3rd Brian Dunleavey.

 

  KILKELLY PLAYER OF THE MONTH

  JUNE 2010

Wednesday 21st July 2010. saw the start of the Stiga top eight series.

Held in Kilkelly Community Centre

 Kilkelly

County Mayo.

There was three groups for the players

Division 1

Division 2

and a Girls Division.

The evening started at 6pm and finished at 10.30pm

With some outstanding table tennis being played.

In Division 1the players were

 Martin Williams, Martin-Edward Ditchburn, Daragh Dermody, Nicola O,Haire, Brian Dunleavey, Michael Lyons,Daragh Egan.

Some old rivals were matched up against each other and it was never going to be easy to win the group,

 the group started with Martin-Edward Ditchburn against Michael Lyons, on one table and Martin Williams against Daragh Dermody.on another.

 The match was evenly poised with both players taken a game each to make it 1-1 But then Martin stepped up a gear and won the next two to see out the match 3-1.

 In the second match Michael Lyons took an early 2-0 lead over Martin-Edward Ditchburn and Michael went 10-5 up in the third, but it wasn;t over yet and Martin-Edward dug deep playing some excellent table tennis under the pressure but managed to win the third game by a score of 12-10. This gave Martin-Edward a boost and he went on to see out the match taking it by three games to two.

The rest of the night saw some fantastic battles on the tables And after four hours of table tennis we had our winners.

In Division 1 Martin Williams took first place Daragh Egan took second and Brian Dunleavey Finished third.

In Division 2 Eddie Ditchburn took first place Orla O'Malley took second and Sean Og Tigue Finished third.

in Division 3 Sarah Dunleavey took first place, Karen Costello took second and Mary Cummins Finished third.

The next Stiga Top Eight's will be held in August.
